Thanks to Jason M Hogle for the ID of this bug as Acanthocephala declivis, a leaf-footed bug. I promise that dirty finger nail is not my own, but that of a guy at Estero Llano Grande.

I'm really enjoying this LRGV series. Gorgeous photos as always!

As for your bug, it looks like Acanthocephala declivis. They're usually active year-round here in Texas. Large and distinctive critters.
