Sandwich Tern at Ferry Meadows CP

I'm having a good spell at the moment, local patch listing-wise. Yesterday, I twitched a male Whinchat, then found my own on the cycle home. This morning I went looking for a Whimbrel and saw five. Then after being gripped by the finding of three Sandwich Terns at Maxey Pits, I found my own at Ferry Meadows on the cycle into work. This is only the second time I have seen the species in the Peterborough area.

You seem to be having a brilliant run at the moment. Dave Gray found two Black Tern and a Sandwich Tern in the Soar Valley today and I was grounded at work and home... damn!

Yes, John, it has been a bit mad. In the last two weeks my year list has increased a lot, helped by finding such local scarcities as Black Tern, Sandwich Tern, Little Gull, Barwit, Whimbrel, Redstart and Whinchat, and twitching local Ring Ouzel, Green-winged Teal, Little Tern and Spotted Crake. Nothing incredible, but with Little Tern and Sarnie Tern, two species I had only had once before around here.
