Double bill

Thanks to the skills of persistent local birdfinders Matt Webb and Brian Stone (respectively), I was able to tick Spoonbill at Ferry Meadows (5.8.08) and Crossbill at Southey Woods (6.8.08) for my PBC year list this week. This 'double bill' has brought my local year list to 180 – only the third time I have reached this total (the others being in 2003 and 2006) – and it's still only the first half of August!

Watch out, Steve Dudley, Brian and I are after your PBC year list record of 185 species!

On the beach

Two Turnstones (duller one ringed), two Ringed Plovers and four Dunlin (including the first juvenile I have seen this year) were feeding on the beach-like edge of the 'slurry' pit south of the Maxey Cut on Etton Road, yesterday (2.8.08).
