On 20.5.06 there was a hint of warmth in the air, which seemd to stimulate an emergence of Four-spotted Chaser dragonflies at Grummit's Scrape, Baston and Langtoft, Lincs. Half-a-dozen of them were on reedy stems pumping fluid into their wings or even just awaiting the splitting of their nymph skins. In this state, they are nice and easy to photograph, as they ain't going anywhere in a hurry...

Once more I have been guiding for the Company of Whales on a holiday to the Picos de Europa, Spain, via the Bay of Biscay (for cetaceans), promoted by Bird Watching magazine. Here are some of my photographs from our latest trip: May 1-7, 2006. For a fuller trip report see www.companyofwhales.co.uk and follow the latest news links.

Found by Ray Bowell this morning (13.5.06), at Deeping Lakes LWT, Lincs, these four glorious Spoonbills are the first locally for a few years, and stayed for a few hours before typically departing, seemingly for good. Click 'em for bigger pics.
